Why New Citizens' Gateway?

Since 2005, our independent refugee charity has empowered refugees and asylum seekers to foster a sense of belonging, integrate into the UK and rebuild their lives.

Between the dedication of our staff and volunteers, the community we have fostered, the generosity of our donors, and our unique holistic model of support, we support over 4,500 refugees and asylum seekers annually.

What is New Citizens' Gateway?

We began our journey as the Barnet Refugee Service, mainly supporting refugees based in the Barnet borough of London. In a few years, our inclusive vision and comprehensive support propelled us to expand our reach to London and now, 19 years later, England and Wales.

While we retain roots in Barnet and a strong focus on London, our commitment to creating a better asylum system extends far beyond boundaries. We believe everybody deserves a haven and an opportunity to rebuild their lives with dignity.

Our Holistic Model of Support

Our Mission

We empower refugees and asylum seekers in England and Wales by providing holistic support and services designed to unlock their full potential.

We go beyond basic needs, offering comprehensive services that address the physical, social, and emotional challenges refugees face and equip them with the tools and resources they need to thrive in their new communities.

The cornerstone of our mission to support refugees and asylum seekers is our Integrated Holistic Model of Support, Rooted in Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. This model acknowledges the whole person and all of their physical, social, emotional, and spiritual needs.

Inclusive

We believe in equal voice, equal opportunity, equal rights, and fairness for everyone. Being client-led and culturally sensitive is core to being inclusive.

Respectful

We treat everyone with kindness, empathy, openness and honesty. Active listening is the first step. This includes how we engage with clients, staff, volunteers and everyone we engage with. It is part of our professionalism.

Collaborative

We believe in partnership. Working together results in better plans, decision-making and solutions. We work together internally and externally with other stakeholders for the best possible outcomes for our clients.

Empowering

We believe in enabling people to solve their difficulties, giving them more participation in the solution, and hence developing the skills, experience, and confidence to solve future problems.

Our 2023 - 2028 Strategy

Our primary objective is to support their integration journey and empower them to achieve their fullest potential as they rebuild their lives in our country. We deeply recognise the positive contribution our clients can make to the UK. Within this plan, we outline our strategic priorities for the next five years and provide a detailed roadmap to realise them. Within this time, our ambitious goals are:

  • To become a more Client-led Organisation.
  • Enhancing our Holistic Model of Support.
  • Establish NCG as one of the most trusted organisations in youth work.
  • Advocacy and Policy Influence.
